Protecting Against Cervical Cancer, Genital Warts, and
HPV-Related Cancers
Fulham Health Clinic offers a comprehensive HPV
Vaccination
Service for adolescents and adults aged 12 to 45 years. Our service utilises the Gardasil 9 vaccine,
which provides protection against nine strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) known to cause various
cancers and genital warts.
WHAT IS HPV (HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS)?
HPV is a widespread virus that commonly affects the mouth,
throat, and genital area. With over 200 known types, most HPV infections are harmless and resolve on
their own. However, certain high-risk strains can lead to serious conditions, including:
Cervical cancer
Vaginal and vulval cancers
Anal cancer
Genital warts
WHO IS AT RISK?
HPV is highly transmissible and often shows no symptoms,
meaning many people may be unaware they are infected. The risk of contracting HPV increases with the
number of sexual partners and is higher for those who became sexually active at a younger age. While
most infections are cleared naturally by the immune system, persistent infections with certain HPV
types can result in long-term health complications.
OUR HPV VACCINATION SERVICE
The HPV vaccination service at Fulham Health Clinic is a
private, non-NHS service available to individuals aged 12 to 45 at the time of their first dose. The
number of doses required depends on age and immune status:
Aged 12 to 45: Two doses, administered at least six months a
part
Individuals with HIV or weakened immune systems: Three doses
over
a 4-to-6-month period.
You may opt for up to three doses if preferred; this can be
discussed in your initial consultation.
This service is not suitable for:
Individuals who are pregnant or trying to conceive
Anyone with a history of severe allergic or anaphylactic
reactions to vaccines
Your suitability will be carefully assessed by a healthcare
professional prior to vaccination.
NHS HPV VACCINATION
HPV immunisation is routinely provided through the NHS
childhood vaccination programme for adolescents aged 12 to 13. If you or your child have missed the
school vaccination or recently moved to the UK, you may still be eligible for free NHS vaccination
up to your 25th birthday, provided you are registered with a GP.
Men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as certain transgender
individuals, are eligible for free NHS vaccination at sexual health or HIV clinics, up to and
including age 45. If you have already completed an HPV vaccination course through the NHS school
programme, further doses are generally not required.
