Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses that spread through coughs, sneezes, or contact with contaminated surfaces. Common symptoms include a high temperature, chills, body aches, fatigue, sore throat, and a dry cough.

While many people recover within a week or two, the flu can sometimes cause more serious complications — particularly in vulnerable individuals.

WHO IS AT RISK?

Those at higher risk of developing severe illness include:

  • Older adults
  • Pregnant women
  • People with weakened immune systems
  • Individuals with long-term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease

How can Fulham Health help?

The Fulham Health Private Flu Vaccination Service is available for adults and children aged 12 years and over * .

Please note, this is a private service and not part of the NHS vaccination programme.

Getting vaccinated helps protect you against seasonal flu and reduces the likelihood of spreading it to others.

This service is not suitable for anyone who has:

  • Received a flu vaccination within the last 6 months
  • Experienced a severe allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine or any of its components

(This is not an exhaustive list — suitability will be assessed before the vaccination is given.)

What happens at the appointment?

The vaccination will be administered in the upper arm, so please wear short sleeves or clothing that allows easy access.

Before administering the vaccine, the healthcare professional will explain any possible side effects and answer your questions.
